Zusammenfassung: | The current status of performing arts education in Asia & Africa is examined, based on a review of different types of skill training, eg, craft training programs, apprenticeship systems, & workshops. Illustrative examples from indigenous training systems in sub-Saharan Africa (eg, Nsenga initiation rites) to endogenous developments in performance training at the tertiary level in Eastern Asia (puppeteers in Japan & Indonesia; Thai classical dancers) demonstrate a growing trend toward the formalization of performing arts training, replacing the traditional life-long learning process. Performing arts curricula of primary & secondary schools in Africa are discussed, & suggestions made for higher education studies. 11 References. Adapted from the source document. |
