The role of the social worker with ethnic elderly people in geriatric day hospitals

It is demonstrated how traditional social work tasks of assessment, advocacy, & supportive therapy, & discharge planning take on expanded characteristics when used with the ethnic elderly in a geriatric day hosptial. A case study of an elderly Greek woman at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Quebec, shows how traditional social work roles are adapted to promote the patient's independence. 19 References.
