Social Work with Groups: Expanding Horizons

Summarizes proceedings of the Tenth Annual Symposium of the Assoc for the Advancement of Social Work with Groups, held in Baltimore, MD, 27-30 Oct 1988. The papers presented at various plenary sessions, which focused on issues of self-determination, real-world groups, & human limitations in terms of the AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) crisis, are reproduced, as are 11 other selected papers, including those on: case-specific kinds of groups (AIDS bereavement support groups, church groups, environmental groups, groups of latency-aged children from violent homes, & group services for the homebound); & general group dynamics (the role of a group leader during various stages of development, the dynamics of small group interaction, the group leader's role as an authority figure & as a multirole practitioner, & the steps a group must take in order to move toward group empowerment). 2 Appendixes, 183 References.
