Zusammenfassung: | Although the 20th century has generally been recognized as the era of "competition of ideologies," it is widely believed that the new international economic order of the 21st century will emerge under the paradigm of sustainable development. In this case, structural shifts may have to be redefined, for both developed & developing countries, with regard to the implications for climate change of energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The dynamics of structural shifts are examined through the interaction of many driving forces. Historical development patterns & common features of developed countries are assessed in an analysis of both developed & developing countries' future adaptation processes to the new global concerns of climate change. 4 Tables, 5 Figures, 1 Appendix, 16 References.
