Zusammenfassung: | The explanatory structure of Andre Gunder Frank's version of dependency theory is analyzed in terms of three forms of explanation: structural, functional, and intentional. Structural explanation is further analyzed in terms of a six-fold warrant that might serve as the basis of an assessment of the success of any such explanation. The nature and legitimacy of functional explanation is examined in reference to current philosophical debates. Finally, the arguments of an important methodological critic of Frank, Robert Brenner, are discussed as a means of further clarifying issues concerning the explanatory structure in Frank. |
