Zusammenfassung: | (For Part II [1997], see abstract 97W28041.) Compares 1986 & 1991 surveys of prevalence & service use for schizophrenics to determine the former's accuracy, the effectiveness of a new service provision, & a demographic profile of patients (N = 433) in the former Hampstead Health District in London, England. Equipped with a broader clinical definition of the condition, the 1991 survey significantly increased prevalence estimates. Frequency & quality of contact with health services increased considerably, with more patients in 1991 discharged on higher doses of medication & prone to continue to seek services. Results indicate that new methods of estimation, diagnosis, & service have improved the medical situation for schizophrenics, but means to reduce occupational & social isolation are still lacking. 4 Tables, 31 References.
