Zusammenfassung: | If there is one concept that seems universally valid in Hinduism, it is that of reincarnation. Further, this concept is said to be directly related to all the other basic concepts of Hinduism. Anthropological studies of Hinduism are fairly recent but, compared to the Sanskritists' assumptions about reincarnation, teach several things: (1) So-called beliefs vary greatly according to social background. (2) They coexist with other notions that are sometimes contradictory. (3) When they can actually be found in some sections of the population, they are beliefs in the true sense of the word; ie, they are associated with a good dose of doubt, of skepticism. 34 References.
