Zusammenfassung: | Economic globalization & global environmental change have altered the nature of government; it is now essential for local, regional, & national governments to account for the needs of the environment. It is argued that focus must be placed on sustainable human development, & there must be accord or coordination among governments at all levels. However, supranational coordination has been relatively weak. The prospects for the creation of a true supranational government that can set & implement policies for sustainable development are considered, with the European Union as the most auspicious example of such a supranational body. The role of the European Union in setting environmental policy for member nations is discussed. 7 References. A. Cohen-Siegel |
