Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:The texts of letters written by Robert Hertz to Pierre Roussel are described, covering such topics as the Thomas-Kritchevsky affair, trends in socialist politics, the work undertaken by both Hertz & Roussel, & the contact each had with other scholars in the fields of sociology & anthropology, eg, Emile Durkheim & J. G. Frazer. Work undertaken by Hertz that was to form the core of his thesis is outlined, describing research on fault, moral & natural law, & the rites of expiation (eg, confession) in detail. Hertz's attempts not to be swayed by French propaganda to hate all things German are noted. D. Weibel
