Zusammenfassung: | Statistical data on the geographical distribution & demographic characteristics of the foreign non-university population in Spain, & in particular Andalusia, are presented. This population grew significantly in the 1990s, especially with immigrants from Africa. Although the percentage of foreign pupils is not high, they are very culturally & ethnically diverse. The varying impact of these students across Andalusian provinces & grade levels (preschool, primary, & secondary) are discussed, as well as the differences in drop-out rates between foreign & native students. Private school foreign students tend to come from Europe & America, while public school students are largely from Africa. Problems with the data are discussed. Future growth in this new student population is expected, leading to concerns about equality & social justice. 7 Tables, 9 Graphs, 6 References. Adapted from the source document. |
