Zusammenfassung: | Compares the different development patterns of Asian & Latin American countries, 1950-1995, focusing on responses to financial crises & internationalizing markets. It is argued that, while the failure or success of political leaders in implementing neoliberal macroeconomic strategies during the early 1980s largely determined the economic growth of each region, other factors must also be considered. Among these are the adaptation of export-based trade policy, shifts in the social basis of employment (feminization of the workforce), redistribution of land ownership, & level of personal savings. 61 References.
