Zusammenfassung: | Explores the reasons for the subordinate status of black women with regard to labor & education in Brazil. Brazilian women almost always earn less than men, & households headed by women are especially poor. Blacks in Brazil are not treated as equals & are excluded from many educational opportunities. Negative images of blacks are pervasive, affecting their treatment by employers & professors. It is argued that the people of Brazil are persistent in denying the existence of racism in general & especially in denying their own personal bigotry. M. Wagner |
