Zusammenfassung:A social-psychological approach is taken toward understanding the failure of post-World War II social housing in France. A narrow focus on "mass" housing and basic facilities has resulted in severe "hidden injuries" to the residents. The political upheavals of 1968 launched high hopes of participation as a means of attacking housing issues. It has not worked out as promised, but suggests the need for a more elaborate political theory of social housing.
