Zusammenfassung: | This introduction to a special journal issue (see related abstracts in SA 44:3) highlights analytical & political reasons for both sociologists of medicine & of science & technology to study medical practice. Of interest to both is how medical scientific knowledge is transformed when it is applied to individual patients. Social science perspectives toward medical practices enable understanding of linkages between human bodies, health/illness, social control, & scientific knowledge/technologies. Furthermore, an opportunity is presented to expand theoretical & substantive horizons & to examine technoscience & politics embedded in medicine. 70 References. V. Wagner |
