Zusammenfassung:Explores the frequency in which mentally ill patients committed deadly & dangerous felonies & the nature (degree of threat & unpredictability) of such conduct. Analysis of records from local public health facilities on a sample of 100 male defendants charged with a felony in Milwaukee County (WI), 1981-1985, identifies 30 who had been treated for a mental illness within 2 years of their criminal proceedings. It is concluded that mentally disordered patients were arrested for violent crime more frequently than others; & while the acts tended to be less violent than those committed by other offenders, they were characterized by a greater degree of unpredictability. 4 Tables, 2 Figures, 33 References.
