Zusammenfassung: | Mexican Petroleum (PeMex [nationalized company]) was radically restructured in 1989 in order to: conserve the national ownership of exploration, exploitation, & commercialization of hydrocarbons; endow the business with a flexible & autonomous structure; allow private capital investment via subcontracting; allow foreign investment; & put labor under the control of a managerial system. This restructuring also meant that union power in collective bargaining would decrease & the unions would become less patrimonial. Since its nationalization in 1938, PeMex has evolved from a national service industry sustaining national development, to an exporter of crude oil & oil derivatives, to a profitable & efficient business with private production sectors & liberalized operating areas. The refining of the PeMex managerial model continues. 4 Figures. Adapted from the source document. |
