Zusammenfassung:Recent debates in Canada over native peoples' self-government are considered from a personal indigenous point of view focusing on the ethnic vs nonethnic character of future governments. Words used in current debates are analyzed, including nation, nationalism, people, & ethnicity. The question of rights of native peoples in Quebec & Canada is considered in the context of the international right of self-determination. It is suggested that native peoples possess this right by virtue of the fact that they historically exercised it. The specificity of the Quebecois reality is analyzed, & models of federalism & immigration policies are discussed. Adapted from the source document.
