Zusammenfassung: | A review of Emma J. Fonacier Bernabe's Language Policy Formulation, Programming, Implementation and Evaluation in Philippine Education (1565-1974) (Manila: Linguistic Society of the Philippines, 1987 [see listing in IRPL, this issue]). The complexity of the linguistic situation in the Philippines is noted as a context for this study. The contents of the volume are briefly described, with emphasis on developments in the past several decades. Bernabe outlines a typology of language decision making that includes three types. The significant amount of historical data contained in the book is noteworthy & constitutes its greatest contribution. B. Annesser Murray |
