Zusammenfassung: | Some of the most well-known & highly studied areas in anthropology are, paradoxically, the same Peruvian regions that have witnessed the most intense guerrilla warfare in the 1980s. Explored are the significant challenges that this conundrum raises for anthropological studies in Peru & Bolivia, highlighting the relationship between the sociopolitical context & anthropological work. In Peru, eg, the Senderista movement has had a largely positive effect on the social sciences & has resulted in thoughtful scholarship & searching debates about Andean achievements & Aymara autonomy, despite the obvious fact that large areas of the interior are under military control. An attempt is also made to identify anthropological research & interpretation deficiencies, & to suggest directions for future research. 105 References. M. Maguire |
