Zusammenfassung: | The political rift in Transkei and Ciskei between the leadership and the bourgeoisie compelled the South African government in Aug 1991 to end its policy of establishing black homelands. Though South Africa declared Transkei and Ciskei to be independent, these homelands were actually dominated by black middle classes who depended on the maintenance of white minority rule in South Africa. However, a series of political coups in Transkei and Ciskei caused a disjuncture between each homeland's leadership and the bourgeoisie that was supposed to be its class-base. |
