Zusammenfassung:The development of Danish research dealing with working life is reviewed. Three branches can be distinguished: sociopolitical, psychology of work, & sociology of work. The first can be traced back to the emergence of industrialization & the consequent need for regulation, but has not been much influenced by sociological theory. The second has included research on aptitude, IQ, & other tests; on work to enhance efficiency & job satisfaction; & on job satisfaction surveys; these have typically involved transfer of Anglo-Saxon traditions to Denmark. The third branch has developed only recently, due to recent emergence of sociology as such in Denmark, but it has become predominant; a certain amalgamation of the three has occurred. A future need is apparent for working life research dealing with the impact of technology. Agencies that could be involved include institutes of higher education, government & private institutes, government & municipal reporting units, & research on contracts. A change in the structure of research is needed if it is to be adapted to emerging needs. W. H. Stoddard.
