Zusammenfassung: | An attempt to demystify the paradox of ethnicity & its resilience in a secular plural polity such as India. Secondary data, archival records, & other literature are used to demonstrate that the formation of minority identity among Muslims & Christians of India cannot be separated from the wider process of historical dynamics of the mode of production. The period 1857-1947 is examined, beginning with the British annexation of Oudh, & ending with the birth of the Indian Republic. Findings regarding similarities & differences between Muslims & Christians are reported, focusing on the articulation of collective identity. 2 Tables, 47 References. Modified AA |
