Zusammenfassung: | An investigation of the construction industry's labor market processes, focusing on labor recruitment practices (eg, casualism) on large construction sites. Structured interviews were held with 43 site managers at English & Welsh projects budgeted at over 2 million British pounds. The question of the relationship between recruitment practices & strategies of managerial control was confronted, as was the possibility that construction firms face distintive problems in the recruitment & subsequent control of their LF that stem from the fact that the product is immobile, & the firm must form a series of temporary organizations at the point of consumption. This implies that the firm may not be able to draw upon the full range of control & recruitment devices available to static firms in a conventional & familiar labor market. 27 References.
