Zusammenfassung: | THE ARTICLE EXAMINES THE U.S. LABOR DEPARTMENT'S POLICY OF "RACE-NORMING," THE EMPLOYMENT TESTING OF BLACKS, HISPANICS, AND "OTHERS" AND COMPARING THE SCORES ONLY WITHIN THE SAME RACIAL GROUP. THIS POLICY HAS BEEN CHALLENGED BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, BUT HAS RECENTLY RECEIVED APPROVAL FROM THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES. THE ARTICLE DISCUSSES TWO CONCERNS: THE NAS'S APPROVAL OF RACE-NORMING WILL GIVE THE PRIMATEUR OF SCIENCE NOT ONLY TO RACE-NORMING, BIT TO THE IDEA THAT GROUPS RATHER THAN INDIVIDUALS POSSESS RIGHTS; AND THE FACT THAT RACE-NORMING WILL AUGMENT AND MAKE PERMANENT THE VERY INEQUALITY IT IS INTENDED TO ELIMINATE. |
