Zusammenfassung:Structuralist theories offer promise for the analysis of social & political relations, but present difficulties in modeling. The work of the most prominent structuralist, Claude Levi-Strauss, is analyzed to see if statistical inference is applicable. Problems of measurement & inference proper are discussed, followed by consideration of underlying issues of probability & causality. It is concluded that statistical inference is an inappropriate methodology for the rigorous analysis of structuralism. 2 Tables, 4 Figures. AA.
