Zusammenfassung:An investigation of changes in the structure of the German employment system from industrialization to the present. The structure of the LF of different branches of the economy are linked to production conditions. Indicators of production technology, organizational attributes, & LF structure of several economic sectors are analyzed, contrasting empirical data & recent theoretical propositions on the development of the employment system. Contrary to W. W. Rostow's proposition of leading sections (The World Economy, London und Basingstoke, 1978), it is found that sectors retained their characteristic features over the whole observation period & differences between sectors became even larger. A discontinuous pattern of development is observed, with two periods of particularly rapid change between 1895 & 1925 & between 1950 & 1970. 6 Figures, 53 References. HA
