Zusammenfassung: | An attempt is made to develop the role of the sociologist in formulating social policy in a developing country, since the need for the sociologist's involvement in social policy formulation in India is still largely unmet. After three decades of planning, with full recognition of the need to give a "social" dimension to the planning of development, the involvement of the sociologist in planning is still marginal. Rather than place the blame on the Indian government, a plea is made for the profession of sociology to take the area of social policy formulation as one of its direct professional concerns.
