Georg Simmel and Social Psychology

Though widely recognized as a sociologist, Georg Simmel (1858-1918) also made significant contributions to social psychology -- particularly in the field of small group interaction -- that have found recognition in recent decades. The analysis of material hitherto often neglected suggests that his early interest in psychology was maintained throughout much of his sociological work.
