Zusammenfassung: | Richard D. Bingham & Laura L. Vertz (see SA 32:1/84N5941) apply block model analysis to identify leadership structures in US political science. However, their starting point is a reputational leadership list derived by Walter B. Roettger ("Strata and Stability: Reputations of American Political Scientists," PS, 1978, 11, winter, 6-13) from a mass survey. It is questionable whether reputational leaders can be theoretically or empirically equated to institutional leaders in this way. Bingham & Vertz also utilize citation behavior, which provides a third possible measure of leadership -- citational leadership. The relations among these three concepts & measures could fruitfully be further explored. In Who's In and Who's Out? An Empirical Question, Richard D. Bingham & Laura L. Vertz (U of Wisconsin, Madison) find value in Dye's suggestions & note further possibilities along the same lines. 5 References. W. H. Stoddard. |
