Zusammenfassung:Statistical data on Coll-educated migrants 25 yrs of age & over from 93 US SMSA's of the US Pop Census of 1960 are analyzed by multiple linear regression. Net migration & gross in-#& out-migration was r'ed with compositional change in professional employment, earned professional income, industr structure, M's 20 -- 24 yrs of age enrolled in Sch, pop, Md age of resident pop, Md Sch yrs completed of resident pop, & ratio of number of M Coll graduates to those needed. Findings show that the relative increase in importance in the employment of professionals (ie, the job openings for professionals) is an important determinant of migration. The income variable was signif only in the case of out-migration, although there is a signif positive r between the change in importance in the employment of professionals & the level of income, a fact which may account for the movement of migrants toward high-income areas. The lack of signif of income data with respect to in-migration & net migration may merely be attributable to an insufficient refinement of income data by occup's. An important finding is the lack of symmetry between out-#& in-migration. It is concluded that "diff'ials in migration for SMSA's were basically a result of diff'ials of occup'al & econ opportunities of the SMSA's." 4 Tables. M. Maxfield.
