Zusammenfassung:The paper deals with an updated modeling methodology for the propagation of accidental flood waves created by a dam failure. A study case, related to a pilot project concerning breaking scenarios of Poaiana Uzului Dam and downstream flood routing proves the efficiency of the proposed methodology. The approach allows for a bidimensional (2D) propagation of flood waves, taking into account the diminishing of the flood wave induced by the wave propagation normal to the main flow direction. The effect is significant in the case of sinuous courses of water or in the case of urban settlements very close to the minor river bed. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
