EUROPE'S FAILED MIDDLE EAST POLICIES

Factors that have contributed to the Europe's foreign policy failures toward Middle Eastern nations are studied. It is contended that the European Union & other European nations' belief that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will be resolved once an agreement to establish a Palestinian state is reached is fallacious. The origins of Europe's skewed understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are documented, illustrating Europe's tendency to overlook Arab aggression during the late 1940s. It is subsequently argued that Europe's pro-Palestinian perspective has resulted in Israel's delineation as responsible for regional social violence; moreover, the European standpoint is criticized for failing to acknowledge certain security concerns resulting from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In addition, it is claimed that Europe possesses a narrow understanding of contemporary Israeli society & that Israeli society does not perceive the European approach for realizing peace as a feasible strategy. It is concluded that Europe must adopt a more realistic & empirical approach to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. 17 References. J. W. Parker
