Zusammenfassung: | Examines distinctions between progressive & conservative views of the Constitution in the context of race. Both progressives & conservatives share a commitment to liberalism, & it is asserted that three aspects of this political philosophy make it ill-suited for pursuing racial justice in the US: It places a high value on individual liberty, which results in trying to resolve disputes over resource allocation via the invocation of neutral allocation principles, & it is rooted in Enlightenment conceptions of reason. It is argued that promoting racial justice requires an insistence on racial proportionality in resource allocation. However, the strong appeal of liberalism in the US precludes the possibility of such a proposal gaining traction. J. Zendejas |
