Zusammenfassung:This article illuminates a certain side of the modern economy beyond the reach of the traditional apparatus of economic theory: the complexity & lack of transparency of the modern economy -- its ominous side for humankind & nature. By contrasting the economic understanding of Aristotle & Adam Smith, the founding structures & peculiarities of the modern perception of economy will be highlighted, & economic action set in relation to humankind's pursuit of a 'good life.' Aspects of the insatiability, excessiveness, & dynamism of the modern economy will be addressed with a specific example, & the fruitfulness of the solutions that Aristotelian philosophy has to offer for modern economic problems will be discussed. 13 References.
