Zusammenfassung:This paper applies the new institutionalism to the comparative analysis of governance & policy making in different political systems. Pluralist, neocorporatist, & European Union interest articulation & policy-making arrangements are contrasted. The article considers the degree of openness, flexibility, extent of predictability, & patterns of policy production & development in the different systems. It concludes that many of the advantages of the EU system with its flexibility & adaptability to sectoral specific issues & conditions are also a source of its problems of nontransparency & democratic deficit. 1 Figure, 3 Charts, 101 References.
