SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE BRITISH WEST INDIES

Soc development in the British West Indies works with practically no indigenous pop. As a consequence, there are no well established cultural institutions through which such development can work. What is needed is the development of forms of local gov & the coordination of the soc services engaged in joint welfare development problems. Our nearest approach so far to coordinated services has been the Jamaica Welfare Limited. Through the `Better Village Plan', a Nutrition campaign, & other activities it has contributed materially to the betterment of soc conditions. In spite of the West Indies efforts towards improvement of agri'al methods, industrialization, & betterment of soc conditions, it may be that the most signif recent contribution to welfare is the decision of the Barbados Gov to support family planning.
