Zusammenfassung: | Despite obvious differences in the ways that reform has been implemented in Central and Eastern Europe, all the countries are moving along the right path. This is evidenced by the latest data on economic development. The populations of these countries, however, have little sense of the results of the reforms as they go about their everyday lives. Interparty conflicts and strife, government crises, corruption, and lack of transparency in privatization form the backdrop, forcing us to give a rather negative assessment of the state of democracy and the market economy. |
