Zusammenfassung: | Poll results dealing with the tax revolt in the United States in 1978 are reviewed. Large numbers of Americans are dissatisfied with the amount of taxes they have to pay & with the government's use of their taxes. The context of this dissatisfaction includes both growing distrust of government leaders & an increased actual rate of taxation. However, there is also a strong commitment to public services; only on welfare & social services do substantial numbers of people favor cutbacks. This tension between opposition to high taxes & support for government spending is resolved by the conviction that government is wasting much of the money it takes in. W. H. Stoddard. |
