De-Impoverishment and Policies of the Fight against Poverty in Peru

This article analyzes the consequences of the interaction between social & economic politics in the processes of de-impoverishment or the emergence from poverty in Peru, particularly during the 1990s. Analysis focuses on the growth in the number of social assistance programs & their effect on the poor & those lacking resources. An attempt is made to determine whether poverty has actually diminished, & what this might signify. For this, the recent history of the process of de-impoverishment in Peru is presented, & a demonstration of the development of social policies & aid, particularly the provision of basic food products, which is intended to soften the policies of structural change.
