RESEARCH ON RELIGIOUS PRACTISE IN THE METROPOLITAN ZONE OF MONTREAL

A study carried out in 11 parishes of Montreal, to determine soc characteristics of the religiously active pop, using data obtained from questionaires distributed in Montreal on Nov 19, 1961, with the cooperation of the Catholic authorities. Information was collected re: age, sex, civil status, place of birth, language spoken, paternal ethnic origin, educ'al level, occup, & place & time of Mass attended on the date of the census, for active religious pop were present at Mass on that date. A simple ecological analysis re the distribution of the above characteristics between the center & peripheral areas was made. Further analysis, using 27 indices of a demographic, educ'al, cultural, occup'al,familial, pol'al, & religious (% of Communion participants) nature, permitted the determination of is among associated factors, re: (A) religion, (B) soc structure, (C) factors relating a pole of (A) to a pole of (B), & (D) fam disorg.
