Zusammenfassung:An analysis of the role of the extended fam in cultural change in a small Lebanese Ru village (Haouch). The relevance of kinship ties to pol'al & soc behavior, & the strength of fam ties, are indicated. The role of the extended fam in such manifestations of cultural change as econ development, emigration, & educ, is discussed. It is the functional integration of the extended fam that makes cultural change possible; that change, in turn, reinforces extended fam cohesion & lineage structure. D. Cooperman.
