Zusammenfassung: | The author argues that both the liberal & the neorepublican interpretations of citizenship are mistaken in the objects of analysis & teleology. A narrative of citizenship emphasizing equality & serving as the basis for ending racial discrimination is misguided because citizenship fundamentally connotes membership in a polity, & the status of nonmembers & members of quasi polities may be as significant as that of disfavored full members. To support his arguments, the author looks at Supreme Court rulings on citizenship cases during the late 19th century & since WWII. 33 References. A. Funderburg |
