Zusammenfassung: | A discussion of the problem of Indian unity, defining unity in the sense of Radcliffe-Brown's 'functional unity.' On this basis, it is argued that too much emphasis must not be placed on the disintegrative aspects of conflict, since conflict is not the antithesis of unity. Similarly, the equation of unity with `similarity' is seen as a misconception. 'With the development of rapid means of COMM & transportation, interdependence does not require physical proximity & diversities are no obstacle to the attainment of unity.' It is further cautioned that 'in the enthusiasm to evolve a uniformity in thought & behavior, with a mistaken belief that it is unity, cliff's may be suppressed.' I. Taviss. |
