Zusammenfassung:Uses Vivian Zelizer's (1988) sociological model of a market & draws on 2002-2006 observational data, interviews with 26 egg agency & sperm bank employees, & historical interviews with 9 key actors in the field of reproductive medicine & technology to explore the social process of assigning value to the human body in terms of sex & gender distinctions in the commodified body. A history of egg & sperm markets is traced, & organizational procedures at donation programs are explored. A significant difference in the valuation of men's & women's bodies is revealed.
