Zusammenfassung: | Domestic religion plays an important role in the lives of immigrants. For many, home is the cornerstone of religious identity, the setting where personal faith is practiced, expressed, transmitted, and transformed. Our study of the immigrant Muslim home demonstrates how through daily rituals and periodic observances religion is made visible and meaningful, and carefully integrated into the activities of everyday life. Our analysis points to the need for empirical investigation into the private, domestic, devotional aspects of religion (such as daily practices, the role of women, and informal teaching) that are not evident through the study of formal, institutional, public religion. |
