Zusammenfassung: | Argues that plans for achieving peace in the Middle East that focus on resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict -- a two-state solution -- should give way to a "more controversial but more logical" three-state solution. Reasons why attempts to link Gaza & the West Bank as a united "Palestine" are doomed to failure are reviewed, highlighting physical & economic distance between the two regions & leadership conflicts between Hamas & Fatah. A three-state solution would satisfy Israel, Fatah in a newly liberated West Bank, & Hamas in Gaza, where it could maintain a traditional Palestinian society. Implications for the global community are discussed. Adapted from the source document. |
