Culture of Conflicts Instead of Tolerance

The text makes a survey of the origin & evolution of the concept of tolerance. It also makes a critical reading of its use over time. From the religious use of the notion, to classical literature on the subject, to contemporary liberal thought, the article studies the different meanings of tolerance, showing continuities & changes. It then proposes an alternative concept that eludes its negative connotations & is compatible with democratic culture, & it ends with a reflection about the Colombian context. 14 References.
