Zusammenfassung: | This article focuses on the challenge of poverty in democratic South Africa, using the Income & Expenditure Survey conducted in 1995 by Statistics South Africa. Different approaches that can be followed in the measurement of poverty are discussed. Then, Sen's approach to the measurement of poverty & the chi-square automatic interaction detection (CHAID) technique are used to analyze these data. CHAID is used to explore the relationship between the poverty status of the household (ie, poor or nonpoor) & other household characteristics. These variables can then be used as predictors of poverty status. 3 Tables, 1 Figure, 1 Appendix, 16 References. Adapted from the source document. |
