Zusammenfassung: | The post-welfare state is a paradox in which there is increased polarization between classes & the mutual presence of affluence & social unrest/violence. In this environment, social organizations, eg, nongovernmental organizations, cooperatives, & trade unions, no longer have the ability for critical intervention. The case of rural cooperatives in India is cited; cooperative networks are facing disintegration. An alternative sociological construct of organizations is presented in which the sociological imagination, once the social root of these organizations, regains its prominence to remold rural cooperatives. 27 References.
