Zusammenfassung: | A review essay on a book by David Carr, The Paradox of Subjectivity: The Self in the Transcendental Tradition (Oxford: Oxford U Press, 1999). Carr asserts that Heidegger's interpretation of the modern tradition has had too much influence on modern philosophy. Heidegger does not recognize the differences between the metaphysical & transcendental traditions, but neither does Carr fully recognize the differences between Kant & Husserl's views on the transcendental tradition, particularly between their views on cognition. Carr does, however, distinguish the metaphysical tradition of the early moderns from Kant's transcendental tradition. 5 References. A. Lee |
